Member-Owned Solar/Wind Generation

Please call Adams Electric before installing any Renewable Energy System.

Adams Electric Cooperative currently provides a net metering incentive for members wanting to install distributed generation that interconnects with the Cooperative.

A summary of our requirements:
  1. To qualify for net metering, the DC output of the panels must not exceed 10 kW.
  2. The member must sign an interconnection agreement.
  3. There is a one-time solar installation application fee of $200, which includes the net metering fee and the cost of the solar production meter base.
  4. If the member has a two-meter electric heating and/or cooling rate, the rate must change to a single-meter electric rate.
  5. Proof of liability insurance coverage of $1M must be provided.
  6. A disconnect means must be provided to isolate the system from Adams Electric Cooperative.
  7. Prior to operating the system, Adams Electric Cooperative will inspect and test the installation to verify its proper and safe operation.

Attached are two policies that cover interconnection of a system and net metering.

Policy 35 – Net Metering Policy

Policy 36 – Interconnection Policy

After discussions with Adams Electric, this form will need to be submitted to begin the interconnection process:

Policy 36 – Attachment A General Description and Electrical Characteristics

The application form along with the $200 one-time metering fee can be mailed to: Tim Brecht, Adams Electric Cooperative, P.O. Box 247, Camp Point, IL 62320

For systems larger than 10 kW DC to 100 kW AC, the Cooperative provides an incentive for the purchase of kWhs produced in excess of the member’s electrical consumption.

Small Distributed Generation Incentive Rate =

[(5 x PPI’s On Peak Energy Charge Rate) + (2 x PPI’s Off Peak Energy Charge Rate)]/7

Small DG Incentive shall be calculated as follows:
(Small DG monthly production – minus monthly member consumption) x Small DG Incentive Rate

  1. An application fee may be required based on the size of the system to study the impact on the electrical distribution system.
  2. If the member has a two-meter electric heating and/or cooling rate, the rate must change to a single-meter electric rate.
  3. Metering fees will depend on the complexity of the metering.
  4. The member must sign an interconnection agreement.
  5. Proof of liability insurance coverage of $1M must be provided.
  6. A disconnect means must be provided to isolate the system from Adams Electric Cooperative.
  7. Prior to operating the system, Adams Electric Cooperative will and Prairie Power, Inc. may inspect and test the installation to verify its proper and safe operation.

Attached are the two policies that cover small distribution generation facilities incentives and interconnection.

Policy 36 – Interconnection Policy

Policy 43 – Small Distributed Generation Facilities Incentive

For systems larger than 100 kW AC, the system must comply with Public Utility Regulatory Policies (PURPA) and become a qualifying facility (QF).

A summary of our requirements:

  1. An application fee may be required based on the size of the system to study the impact on the electrical distribution system.
  2. Prairie Power, Inc. (PPI) will be responsible for purchasing the excess energy being supplied to the grid.
  3. If the member has a two-meter electric heating and/or cooling rate, the rate must change to a single-meter electric rate.
  4. Metering fees will depend on the complexity of the metering.
  5. The member must sign an interconnection agreement.
  6. Proof of liability insurance coverage of $1M must be provided.
  7. A disconnect means must be provided to isolate the system from Adams Electric Cooperative.
  8. Prior to operating the system, Adams Electric Cooperative will and Prairie Power, Inc. may inspect and test the installation to verify its proper and safe operation.

Attached are the two policies that cover qualifying facilities and interconnection.
