23 Penny Power Grants Awarded at Reception

Twenty-three Penny Power grants were approved in April. A total of $10,575.00 was granted to the following groups/organizations at a reception held at the Cooperative in Camp Point:

• St. Dominic School – $250 for online Typing Master program

• Schuyler-Industry Middle School – $200 for scientific calculators and $200 for microscopes and slides

• Adams County Firecrackers 4-H Club (through Community for Christ Assistance Center) – $150 for “Meating the Need” project

• Homeward Bound Waggin, Inc. – $350 toward repairs on van used to transport animals

• American Cancer Society – $400 for Adams County Relay for Life

• Community for Christ Assistance Center – $1,000 for CUSD #3 (Central) to purchase tennis shoes for Back-to-School Fair

• Southeastern High School – $400 toward books for the “Read for a Lifetime” reading program

• Schuyler County Food Basket – $500 for food pantry

• Plymouth Police Department – $500 to update law enforcement equipment

• Living Faith United Methodist Church – $700 for CUSD #337 (Southeastern) Backpack project

• Zion United Church of Christ – $700 for CUSD #4 (Mendon) for book bags and basic school items

• Immanuel Lutheran Church Kid’s Club – $400 for after-school program

• Central Middle School – $725 toward cost of accelerated math program

• Southeastern Athletic Boosters – $550 to help build a weight room at high school

• Cheerful Home Child Care – $500 for wagons and riding toys that assist physical development

• Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois – $400 toward cost of buying light boxes that help treat seasonal affective disorder and depression

• Adams County Ambulance & EMS – $500 toward cost of purchasing an LED emergency vehicle light bar

• Community Foundation Serving West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri – $550 for new printer

• Transitions of Western IL – $325 toward cost of table top display board

• The Quincy Museum – $250 for summer programming

• Habitat for Humanity of Cass & Schuyler Counties, Inc. – $500 toward cost of kitchen cabinets and countertops for home in Rushville

• Quincy Art Center – $525 for the “smART Kids” art mentor program

During the meeting, guest speaker Jean Buckley discussed the Tracy Family Foundation as another resource for grant recipients.

With this cycle, since the implementation of the Penny Power program in 2005, grants total $298,407.69. The next deadline to apply for a Penny Power grant is July 7, 2014. Contact Bill Stalder for more information at (800) 232-4797.
