Butter Meltaways

  • 1/2 cup butter no substitutes, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar


  • In a bowl, cream butter, oil, sugar, and powdered sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar, gradually to the creamed mixture. Chill for several hours or overnight. Drop by rounded teaspoonsful 2 inches apart onto an ungreased baking sheet. Flatten with a fork dipped in flour or use the bottom of a cup dipped in sugar. Sprinkle with a little more sugar on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.
