Cherry Almond Coffee Cake

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 pkg. white or yellow cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can 21 oz. cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Glaze:
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract


  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour jelly roll pan (15 1/2x10 1/2x1 inch). Mix sour cream, water, and eggs in large bowl. Stir in cake mix (dry) until moistened. Batter will be slightly lumpy. Spread in pan. Drop pie filling by generous spoonfuls onto batter. Bake 30-35 min. or until cake springs back when touched lightly. Cool. Sprinkle with almonds. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract for glaze. Drizzle over coffee cake.
  • Can also be made with apple pie filling instead of cherry. Use pecans instead of almonds and vanilla extract instead of almond.
