Fruit Bars

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 lb. + 3 Tbsp. powdered sugar divided
  • 1 cup margarine divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped marachino cherries
  • 2 tsp. milk

Instructions
 

  • Blend flour, 3 Tbsp. powdered sugar, and 1/2 cup margarine together. Pat into 9x13 pan. Bake 15 minutes at 325 degrees. Combine eggs, flour, baking powder, 1 tsp. vanilla, dates, nuts, coconut, and cherries. Spread over crust and bake 15 minutes more at 325 degrees. Cool completely. Beat until fluffy 1/2 cup margarine, 1 lb. powdered sugar, 2 tsp. vanilla, and 2 tsp. milk one at a time to improve consistency. Spread over layers and refrigerate.
