Grandma's Gumdrop Cookies

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour not sifted
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 cup cut-up small gumdrops
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts optional


  • Cream sugars, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Spoon flour into measuring cups. Blend salt and baking soda with flour. Add blended dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in gumdrops and nuts, mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.  Makes 5-6 dozen cookies.
