Malott Texas Cake

Ingredients
- 2 lg. eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 sticks butter
- 4 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 cup water
- Frosting:
- 1 stick butter
- 7 Tbsp. milk
- 4 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 lb. powdered sugar
- 1 cup chopped nuts optional
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix eggs, buttermilk, and baking soda. Set aside. In a large bowl, mix flour sugar, and salt. Set aside. In a saucepan, bring to a boil butter, cocoa, and water. Remove from stove, then gradually add ingredients from small bowl. Next, gradually add ingredients from large bowl. Mix all together. Pour into ungreased sided cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. While cake is baking, mix ingredients for frosting. Frost cake as soon as it comes out of oven. Sprinkle with nuts, if desired.

This recipe has been handed down from generations. It’s delicious right down to the last crumbs. Our family calls it “Malott” Texas Cake. As we are blessed with a large family, it was always cut into smaller pieces. Years ago, my cousin shouted to the large crowd that he wanted a BIG piece NOT a Malott piece. It has been a requested dessert for years and years. We’ve all learned to make it.
