Energy Efficiency Programs

The Cooperative is committed to helping you save energy. Why would we do that when what we sell is energy? Cooperatives are about the members. Being member owned means we want to provide you the best possible service at the best possible price. Part of our commitment is keeping your costs down.

Load Control Programs

Many Adams Electric members participate in a load control program. The program allows the Cooperative to reduce the total amount of electricity used by its members (as a whole) during times of high electric demand, such as the hottest days of the summer. The load control program runs year round during high demand periods (typically May through October for air conditioners). Members who choose to participate in the program allow the Cooperative to control their central air-conditioning units and electric water heaters. In return, these members receive a reduced rate for their electric heating, cooling, and water heating. Members who do not have electric heat but have central air-conditioning and/or an electric water heater may qualify for a credit.

Schedule A (Base Rate)

The majority of our members are on the Cooperative’s base rate, Rate A.

Monthly facility charge of $49.00 plus:
1-1,000 kWh……….$0.139/kWh
1,001-2,000 kWh…$0.137/kWh

Over 2,000 kWh…..$0.135/kWh

* Effective April 1, 2023

Schedule CAH

Controlled single-meter all-electric rate

Monthly facility charge of $49.00 plus:
1-1,000 kWh……..$0.139/kWh
1,001-3,000 kWh…..$0.107/kWh
Over 3,000 kWh…..$0.135/kWh

* Effective April 1, 2023

The member must allow the Cooperative to install controls to ensure electric central air conditioning, heat pump, electric water heating, and electric vehicle charging station demand will be reduced during the Cooperative’s peak demand periods. the Member does not receive a water heating or air conditioning credit in addition to this rate.

Schedule LM-CAC (Load Management – Controlled Air Conditioning Credit)*

This program is for Members who have central air-conditioning but do not have electric heat. The Member will receive an $8.00 credit May through October on their electric bill.

A control switch will be installed to interrupt the central air conditioning. Load control runs year round during high demand periods. During the control period, the central air conditioner will be interrupted for a maximum of 15 minutes at a time while the fan will continue to run. In most cases, little or no comfort loss will be noticed.

There is no charge to go on this rate. According to the National Electric Code, all central air-conditioners must have an outside disconnect. Adams Electric charges $25.00 to install a disconnect if one is not present.

Schedule LM-CWH (Load Management – Controlled Water Heating Credit)*

This program is for Members who have 30 gallon or larger electric water heaters but do not have electric heat. The Member will receive an $8.00 credit on their electric bill each month. A control switch will be installed to interrupt the water heater. The control period will be year round during high demand periods. Water heaters will be interrupted for the entire control period. In most cases, little or no comfort loss will be noticed. There is no charge to go on this rate.

Schedule CHC (Controlled Heating & Cooling Rate)

* Effective April 1, 2023 – This two-meter controlled electric heating and cooling rate (Rate CHC) will be eliminated once projects on the waiting list have been completed as the cost for the meters and installation have become prohibitive. Members currently on the CHC rate will be allowed to keep the adjusted rate for as long as they own the property. Once a property changes hands or, in the case of rental property, changes tenants, the location will be switched to the single-meter all electric rate and the auxiliary meter will be removed.

Additional monthly facility charge of $7.00 plus:
Heating, Water Heating & Central Air Conditioning $0.102/kWh
Other Usage See Schedule A

This rate is for homes that have electric heat, electric water heating and/or central air-conditioning.

A control switch interrupts the water heater and the central air conditioning. The control period will be year round during high demand periods. During the control period, the central air conditioner will be interrupted for a maximum of 15 minutes at a time while the fan will continue to run. Water heaters are interrupted for the entire control period. In most cases, little or no comfort loss will be noticed.

The Member pays $600 for the initial metering equipment and installation cost.

Schedule CAC (Controlled Air-Conditioning Rate)

* Effective December 2008 – This two-meter controlled air-conditioning rate (Rate CAC) was eliminated. Members currently on the CAC rate are allowed to keep the adjusted rate for as long as they own the property. Once a property changes hands or, in the case of rental property, changes tenants, the location will be switched to the LM-CAC credit and the auxiliary meter will be removed.

Additional monthly facility charge of $7.00/mo. for May, June, July, August, September, and October):
Central Air Conditioning $0.117/kWh
Other Usage See Schedule A

*LM-CAC and LM-CWH cannot be combined with CHC, CAC, or CAH. However, members can combine LM-CAC with LM-CWH if equipment qualifies.

How do I sign up for CAH, LM-CAC, or LM-CWH?

Once your heating, cooling, and water heating systems are installed, contact the Cooperative at (217) 593-7701 to schedule an appointment for a control switch. Installations are completed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

EnergyWyse Loan Program

The EnergyWyse Loan Program provides qualifying members of Adams Electric Cooperative with low interest loans to install high-efficiency, all electric heating and cooling systems, energy-efficient windows and doors, insulation, standby (permanent) generators, and portable/PTO driven generators. These funds are available for new construction as well as for existing homes and businesses. Each of these loans requires members to follow the application guidelines outlined below. Loans for residential service upgrades are available as well and may be approved based on the members’ payment history with the Cooperative.

Members completing two or more projects simultaneously may qualify for a “combined loan.”  The loan amount may not exceed $30,000.00 and will be financed over a ten (10) year time period. Combined loans will be at the applicable HVAC/Generator rate. There is a $50 application fee for loans of $3,000 or more. This fee helps offset the costs of filing UCC forms. This fee is returned to the member if the loan (s) is not approved.
