Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies


  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. salt


  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Set aside. Thoroughly cream vegetable oil, butter and both sugars. Add vanilla and eggs. Add sifted dry ingredients, stir in and blend. Roll a teaspoon of soft dough into a ball. Roll ball in sugar. Place on cookie sheet. Dip a flat bottomed glass into sugar and flatten ball of dough. Bake for 8 minutes. Makes around 8 dozen. Baking time may vary.
